Şerefiye Cistern
Şerefiye Cistern was built between 428 and 443 by the Roman Emperor Theodosius II, in order to store water through the Bozdoğan Aqueduct (Valens Aqueduct). While water distribution was made from the water sources in Belgrad Forest and its surroundings to the "Nymphaeum", "Zeuksippos Baths" and "Grand Palace" via the Bozdoğan Aqueduct canal, this water distribution process was pioneered by the construction of the Şerefiye Cistern. The cistern met the water needs of Istanbul for centuries with the Binbirdirek Cistern built in the 4th century and the Basilica Cistern built in the 6th century.
The historical building, located on Piyerloti Street in Binbirdirek District, Çemberlitaş district of Istanbul, was opened to visitors on April 24, 2018, after the restoration works.
